Clay Images of West BengalCalcutta Notes![]() 5th November 1980 am Patuapara for photos. pm Ramlal Bazaar. Little outcrops of Kumars around the Ramlal Bazaar area. Saw the clay headdress style. The style here reminds me v. much of that in Assam. Went to small Kali mandir w. clay image-I was told that it is 16 years old. Next to another temple actually off the road in Ramlal Bazaar. Inside-Jagaddhatri, Sitola, Kali (w. lion) and Saraswati. All the images-except the Saraswati one-didn't look older than a year. The temple was small and built of concrete in the Bengali year 1357. Previously I went to the house of Hari Ram Pal (where profulla Pal junior lives). Took photos of Manasa image (this year's) and small Ganesha. In Chunder's puja kumro (sort of melon) is offered instead of goat in bali dan. 108 lamps lit after Bisarjan-at Jagarnath (nr Howrah bridge) for Kali etc at Babu Ghat. Rs 5000 for each Dp in those days. Nothing comes out of the property dedicated to the deity (religious trust). some families use the income from this to do puja. Ganesh Chunder-Rs2000 for all the pujas out of this kind of property. Smasana Kali (worshipped on cremation ground) painted on the day (Bama Kali 2 handed, no tongue, wine in bowl and Shiva naked). Brahmin and kumari do puja in Smasana. 6th November 1980 - Interview with Chunder family 7th November 1980 - Krishnanagar 11th November 1980- Interview with Hatkola Duttas 12th November 1980- Kumartuli and Kalighat 13th November 1980 - Viswa Bharati 14th November 1980 - Patuapara and Kumartuli 15th November 1980 - Krishnanagar 16th November 1980 - Krishnanagar 17th November 1980 - Krishnanagar 19th November 1980 - Calcutta + Dutta family 20th November 1980 - Kumartuli 21st November 1980 - Calcutta State Archaeological Museum 22nd November 1980 - Krishnanagar + Nabadwip 23rd November 1980 - Krishnanagar + Shantipur 26th November 1980 - Mecheda + Tamluk 30th November 1980 - Krishnanagar |
