pm Kalighat. To Profulla's place. Kali in production-one very large one. I think Sirish & P have the same moulds-the faces are different to the Kumartuli ones. The eyes are thin and slanted almost like cats' eyes. There were also 2 small figs-one of Kali (v.modern w. flowing clay hair about 2 foot high) and the other of Krishna (2 hands and a little smaller). Kali was striding diagonally across Shiva. I was told these were 'bari' images (for homes) & that they were 3/4 years old. They were there like the Jagaddhatri for re-painting.
Then went to try and find Shanti Ashram. The pandal has been pulled down. However, I noticed that the Kali mandir's rooves are the prototype (exactly) of the Math Chauni. Even down to the fiddly bits at the base of the roof and the decorative bits on the edges perhaps.
Then went to Patuapara. The Kalis have slant eyes but they aren't the same type. Saw one very unusual (tall) figure.
In looking for the sadhu at Shanti Ashram saw in that SA place a brass (asta dhatu) image of Bogola. Across the road and down a bit a small shrine in a house with a stone image of Kali (Dhakina-facing) & Govinda-Radha on the right. The woman told me that the image had a history and had been given by her guru.
